Version 4.0 crash with iPhone OS 3

Shortly after Say it & Mail it version 4.0 was released June 19, 2010, an incompatibility was discovered with GPS Map locations and iPhone OS 3 causing the app to crash.

Version 4.0 was removed from the iTunes store and 4.0.3 fixes the problem and makes it backwards compatible with iPhone OS 3.

I see 'Email Sent' but the email has not been sent yet.

When you see 'Email Sent' in green letters on the screen, it means that the email was sent to the Mail app on your iPhone or iPod Touch for processing. If you are not in an area where email can be sent immediately, it will be held in the Mail app until you are someplace where email can be sent. If you are in an area where email can be sent, you will hear the jet sound shortly after sending the email. Larger file attachments take longer to email.

The advantage to this is that you never need to worry about whether you are in a good coverage area for sending email. Just tap 'Mail it' and 'Send'.

You can send multiple emails as rapidly as you wish and they will all be processed by the Mail app.

Intermittently quits when you take a picture with the iPhone.

Caused by running out of memory.

Power off your iPhone and power it back on. To do this, hold the 'Sleep' button until the slider appears. Then slide to 'Power off'. Turn it back on by holding the 'Sleep' button for a few seconds.

iPod Touch has all buttons dimmed and you cannot record.

The iPod Touch does not have a built-in microphone. You need to use headphones with a built-in microphone. If you plug in the standard headphones with no microphone, you cannot record and all buttons will be disabled.

You can use the headphones from an iPhone with your iPod Touch. They have the built-in microphone and will fit your iPod Touch receptacle.

NOTE: Version 1.1 or later will alert you when you have started the app without the microphone headphones.

While recording, you get a phone call on the iPhone and recording stops.

This is normal. The iPhone does not allow you to record phone calls and automatically stops recording when you receive a call.

If you were not able to finish your voice memo before a call came in, you will need to re-record it.

IMPORTANT: If you took a picture and are getting ready to email it along with a voice memo, you must 'Decline' the phone call if you want to keep the picture. Accepting the phone call will quit the app and erase the picture from memory when you are returned back to "Say it & Mail it" after the phone call.(This problem will be fixed in version 1.2)
Accepting the call will also erase any recorded message.

However, if you Decline the call, your picture will still be in "Say it & Mail it" and the recording will also be there. As stated above, if your recording was interrupted by the incoming call, you will need to tap 'Say it' and record it again.

Location map stops displaying the map and shows an icon instead.

While it may be tempting to use the location map as a GPS device while driving, it is not recommended. If you leave the location window open and the map keeps updating, you may exceed Google's limit of 1000 unique (different) image requests per day for static maps.

If you exceed this limit, you will see the icon shown above instead of the map, and you will not be able to get any more map displays until the next day. The static map display only updates when you move to a new location (usually about 50 feet from the last location).

NOTE: If this happens, your map coordinates will still be used in your email. You just won't be able to to view the map to visually verify that the location is correct.
Also, if you leave the location map window closed, the static map will not be trying to update continuously. You can confirm that the location is accurate by looking for the green outline around the map icon on the main screen.
Also, as a safeguard, you will get an alert message if your location is not accurate when you send the mail with the location switch on.

Version 1.2 will help this situation by updating the static map less frequently when the location window is open and the location changes.

Note: for your privacy, map location services will not be used until the location switch is on.

Cannot get map location.
(Waiting for Accuracy)

'Say it & Mail it' will not use a location unless the accuracy is 350 meters or less. Normally, it will say "Ready" within a few seconds after the location switch is turned on. If you are in a weak coverage area, it can take up to 30 seconds or more. Some locations will not work at all, espececialy inside a building.

NOTE: The same locating method is used by the Map application which will always show you a location where it thinks you are. However, in weak coverage areas, that location can actually be miles from your actual location. If you are going to include your location in your email, 'Say it & Mail it' makes sure it is the correct location and does not let you use an incorrect location.

Volume is too low while playing a voice memo.

You can change the playback volume easily.
Just use the 'volume up/down' controls on the side of your iPhone or iPod Touch while you are playing back the memo (tap 'Play it' and adjust the volume).

NOTE: If you adjust the volume on an iPhone while you are not playing the memo, the phone ringer volume will change instead of the playback volume.
So tap 'Play it' first.

NOTE: The playback volume is tied to the iPod volume. So if you are playing music and then switch to "Say it & Mail it," the volume will be at the level it was while you were playing music. But you can change the volume as noted above.

Playing an audio file in Outlook email with Windows XP produces an error saying it cannot find the application to play the sound. (or the sound will not play for some unknown reason).

This is a rare problem that usually occurs sometime after you have re-installed or repaired Windows XP.

The fix should be simple. Just open the email and look at the Attachments. You will see "Voice_Recording.wav". Drag that file to the desktop and then right-click on it. Select "Open With" and then select "Choose Program..."

The two most common programs for playing audio files are Windows Media Player and QuickTime.
Choose one of those and then click the checkbox that says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file".

Click OK. You should only need to do this proceedure once. Now whenever you get an audio file attachment, just double click on it in the mail program and it will launch Windows Media Player or QuickTime and play the audio.

NOTE: Macs do not have this problem, they embed the sound in the body of the email and you just click to play. Windows 7 will also let you play an audio file from within your email.

Turning on map location services.

For your privacy, map location services will not be used until the location switch is on.

Tap the map icon in the main window to open the map location window. Then slide the switch on.
The switch will remain on as long as 'Say it & Mail it' is running. When you quit, the switch is turned off the next time you run the app.

NOTE: Starting with version 1.4, the switch turns on automatically when you tap the map icon. You can turn it back off if you wish.

Cannot Send Mail with Jailbroken iPhone

Jailbroken iPhones are not supported with Say it & Mail it. Please don't ask us for support if you are using a Jailbroken iPhone.

The symptom is that email cannot be sent using Gmail. (Say it & Mail it attaches an audio wav file to the email to be processed by the Mail app. But the email is never processed by the Mail app when it has that attachment using a JailBroken iPhone).

Hangs or quits with iOS 4.1

There is a problem with multitasking and iOS 4.1 when using the Say it & Mail it app versions prior to 4.0.5.
The symptom is that when you tap the 'Say it' button to record, the recording gets stuck and will not stop. Or the app may quit.

Mail app in Mountain Lion does not play voice memos

When you receive an email with an audio attachment (for instance, voice memos sent by 'Say it & Mail it' from your iPhone to your Mac as a .wav file), you would expect to see a QuickTime audio player that lets you play the audio.

The solution is here...
